So after a long day and night of work, I absentmindedly left my weapon outside and realized I didn't have it when I woke up. The guys found it and decided to teach me a lesson and have me sweat for a while, and sweat I did. I remembered exactly where I left it, so someone must have picked it up. And a weapon being a sensitive item and all, I followed protocol and notified the company first sergeant, and word spread to find it. After a bit the guys told me who had it, but it was too late, I was already in deep shit. No one to blame but myself for being negligent. It would've been hard to tell my parents I got demoted. My platoon sergeant and the company commander has known me for somewhat of a competent soldier, so they fought and vouched for me. Fortunately, this being my first big F@#% up, I was given a second chance. I keep my rank, but now I'm pulling 16 hour duty shifts. I'm very embarrassed to share this publicly, but I need to grow up and be a man about this. I'll learn my lessons better this way. What kind of person would I be if I brag about my deeds and hide my F'k ups. Anyways, these late hours allow me to slip away for a while and check my mail when the lines are thin, so I guess I could have some lemonade after all. Hope you guys back home aren't too disappointed.
